SECUNDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has completed a survey of a majority of properties that have encroached upon nalas in the Secunderabad circle. The survey is part of a crucial decision taken by the government to clear all the encroachments on nalas in the city.
The civic body will soon take a decision on pulling down the encroachments. A team of officials from the GHMC engineeringtown planning wing, and irrigation and revenue departments participated in the survey.

The survey focussed on encroachments on five major nalas Kalasiguda nala, Kukatpally nala, Picket nala, Shahbazguda nala and Lalapet nala. The carrying capacity of all these nalas has come down due to the encroachments. Several areas abutting these nalas are inundated during monsoon. Some of the encroachers have erected pillars right in the middle of the nalas.
According to town planning records, the length of Kalasiguda nala is 3.64 kms. “The team has identified a total of 29 properties along the nala. The nala has shrunk. A few properties were constructed on the nala itself,“ said an official, who participated in the survey. In case of Kukatpally nala, officials identified118 properties. The Kukatpally nala has now become quite narrow with buildings coming up on both sides. As many as100 properties have come up on the Picket nala. The team identified 305 properties on Shahbazguda nala. This nala crosses major areas like Chilkalguda and Adikmet. A high school and 64 other properties came up on Lalapet nala.
GHMC north zone assistant city planner K Srinivas Rao said the survey report was submitted to senior officials. “We will go ahead with the demolition once we get the green signal,“ he added.
